There Are Many
Ways to Help
School breakfast programs are vital to happy tummies. Many are struggling to keep up with demand. Donate at your local participating grocery store during their campaign (details below) or donate online.
About Make Happy Tummies™
Make Happy Tummies is enabled by community partners, including Calgary Co-op, restaurants, individual donors, and organizations who come together to fundraise for local breakfast programs through an annual grocery store campaign and local initiatives.
100% of donations raised through Make Happy Tummies make their way to local stigma-free breakfast programs managed by our partners Student Nutrition Ontario and Breakfast Club of Canada.
Make Happy Tummies
Coming to Calgary Co-op
January 30 – February 12
It’s important to our Make Happy Tummies partners to actively support the communities in which we operate. This includes supporting local breakfast programs and hungry children.
As we start the new year, the reality is that 1 in 3 children is at risk of attending school on an empty stomach.*
Calgary Co-op is a partner in the first Make Happy Tummies campaign (formerly Toonies for Tummies). Alongside many brands in their stores, we are working to ensure that 100% of every donation goes to local children and breakfast programs at local schools.
Last year, alongside our generous shoppers and with our match donation days, Calgary Co-op raised over $67,657, providing more than 33,000 healthy meals to local children.
This year, the community of sponsor brands supporting Make Happy Tummies has grown. You can see them in Calgary Co-op’s flyer and in-store. With your support, ours and theirs, we hope to continue to build meaningful and impactful relationships within Calgary Co-op’s communities. Watch for their campaign in-store January 30 – February 12 where you can donate.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much of my donation goes towards student nutrition/breakfast programs?
How do you identify local programs?
We work with our student nutrition partners, to identify eligible school-based student nutrition programs. These programs benefit from donations made in-store and online once the campaign ends.
What if I do not see a program in the vicinity of the store where I am shopping?
How much can I donate at the grocery store? Can I get a tax receipt?
Many of our grocery store partners offer options to make donations of a toonie and several other donation options, including in some cases open donations. The Foundation accepts donations of $5 or more online which are eligible for a tax receipt.
Why are schools not named?
We do not publish school names for privacy reasons.
Can I direct my funds to a specific program?
No. But rest assured donations that are made in store will remain in the local community in the vicinity of the grocery store where the donation is made. For donations made online, we will make every best effort to have those donations benefit student nutrition programs in the region. For certain, donations made online will remain in the province associated with the online donation.
What are the criteria for foods served in the student nutrition programs?
The criteria are determined by the organizations that administer the programs and is based on nutrition guidelines set by each respective province.
Do you run a student nutrition program in your school and don’t see it listed on the tracker?
